1. Disconnect the thermostat leads and remove the thermostat from the thermostat bracket.
2. Replace the thermostat and rewire according to the diagram in the use and care booklet or using your tagged leads.
3. Double-check that the wire connections are correct and firm.
4. Reestablish the electric power to the water heater and replace the protective cover to the thermostat.
5. Cycle test the water heater to ensure proper operation.
1.Shut off the cold water supply to the heater and open the hot water faucet and drain valve on the water heater to drain the water below the element being replaced.
2. Remove the front panel(s) and fold back, or remove the insulation.
3. Remove the thermostat covers.
4. Disconnect the wires from the element (noting the exact position and color).
5. Remove the elements using a 1-1/2” socket or screw-in type, or a 3/8” socket for four bolt type.
6. Clean the surfaces of the coupling flange and new element flange. With the new gasket in place, reverse the process of steps 4, 5, 6 and 7.
7. With the hot water faucet open, turn on the cold water supply to the water heater to refill the tank. Shut off the hot water faucet once a constant flow of water is achieved without any air bleeding out of the line.
8. Restore power to the water heater and replace the insulation and front panel(s).
9. Cycle test the water heater to ensure proper operation.
